BIO :: MODERN GROOVE ASSEMBLY :: MGA

Modern Groove Assembly is headed by veteran band leader, composer, keyboardist, and beatsmith/producer Steve Catanzaro. 

 

MGA music has been charted and played by some of the premier dj's and tastemakers around the world, and released on Ministry of Sound, 20th Century Fox, Kajmere, Irma, Stilnovo, Lolawax, etc as well as our own Assembly Line Records.

MGA has produced tracks for and with Sy Smith, Cherie Matheison, Oscar Brashear, Daz I Kue (Bugz in the Attic) Macy Gray, Shana Halligan (Thievery Corp) multi-instrumentalist Quetzal Guerrero, and many more. In addition, MGA has been remixed by some of the top musicians in the underground scene, including Grammy nominee Nicolay (Foreign Exchange), Jeremy Ellis (The Roots) Daz I Kue (Bugz in the Attic), and Ezel (Yoruba Records).

Based in NYC, MGA has held down live residencies at iconic venues in the city as well as LA and the Las Vegas Strip. Musicians and DJ's who have appeared include Tortured Soul, Jeremy Ellis (The Roots), Sy Smith, Mark de Clive Lowe, Nik West, Teri Tobin, Herman Matthews, Louis Van Taylor, Quetzal Guerrero, plus DJ's Bugz In the Attic, John Beltran, Kim E Fresh, Tomahawk Bang, Phoreyz, Santos, Seduce, Natasha Diggs, Apple Jac, and many more.

 

MGA's latest release is "I Hope I Never" Torchlight Remake f the sultry vocals of Brighton UK based Soul Sister Alison David. "I Hope I Never" is a new wave classic written c 1979 by Tim Finn for his band "Split Enz." The Torchlight Remake has been called "Impossibly beautiful, deserving a worldwide audience" by Darren Benjamin of BBE Soul.
